PSA Art Awakenings

PSA Art Awakenings fosters empowerment and recovery through the power of creative expression. The program offers services to adults and youngsters challenged by serious behavioral illnesses. In five counties throughout Arizona, the 11 studios provide a supportive environment in which "artists" can explore and develop their artistic abilities. Participants learn respect for self and others, personal accountability and take pride in accomplishments while developing enhanced self-esteem and wellness management skills.

For adults, the psycho-social rehabilitation program provides therapeutic art groups to explore feelings and process issues with emphasis on community integration. Studios offer instruction in visual art, poetry, music, movement and drama plus pre-job training and education. Artists also develop professional skills by creating artwork for exhibit and sale at the ArtAwakenings' galleries, shops and other community venues.

For youngsters and families the studios offer structured, creative activities in individual and group settings. The focus is on cultivating wellness in the family, community and educational environments.
